As for upgrading Be prepared I got IT to give me a 'test' site I suppose most people call that a development site so I could figure out how everything worked and that was a big help.
And it let me figure out what problems were likely to occur and what to tell people about new features. Just a thought Or more than one graded role?

There'll be two boxes - the one on the left is the current students and on the right is 'potential' students. Find them in the left box and select and drag them into the right box - that takes them out of the course.

Hi Karen, Did you see the discussion about students in metacourses farther down in this thread? Also, have you checked to make sure your students are not in system roles as students?
You only want to enroll students in courses. I agree with Ben about checking the system roles.
This is the most relevant thread I can find to my current problem. I have unenrolled some users from a course.

You just interrupt the permission to enter the course and clear off the partipants list, that's all.
As you enroll this identity again, everything is in its place. This applies even for deletion of a user, as this means just a flag in the database to ignore this identity - which is an issue of permanent discussion regarding security, stability, and privacy.
In this case, your admin could open the tomb, remove the flag and reanimate this identity. Don't know wether this helps in your case The whole thing is a bit tricky and a perfect answer could get quite complicated and detailed if it should be necessary - more mice!
